Elements of Design

SPACE: the area around an object, where nothing lies, or the area an object takes up. Space is the area an object fills or leaves left over.

VALUE: value is the difference between shades of a color. It designates whether a single hue is lighter of darker (has less or more value).

COLOR: color is one of the most striking elements of design. The way different colors match and blend influences the design significantly.

TEXTURE: texture is how an object feels. Whether rough or smooth, matte or shiny, texture describes the surface apperance of design.

SHAPE: shape is the way different lines, angles, and forms mesh together to create a shape that makes an intelligble object.

FORM: form is a combination of lines that creates a generic geometric or abstract figure.

LINE: a line is a series of points that have direction and can be curved or straight. lines are the basic structures of form

Music inspires me. It's awesome how just a three minute song can totally change your mood. Whether something slow and thoughtful or upbeat and pumpin', music inspires me and provokes new thoughts.

As corny as it sounds, nature can give me alot of inspiration. The amazing detail and intimacy of it fascinates me.

Older friends and family members that I admire inspire me. I'm shaped alot by those I admire and their tastes and styles inspire me and can alter my own.

Accomplishment inspires me. The feeling after finishing a hard run or winning an intense soccer game or getting a good grade, and the contrast of recovering from it inspires thoughts and excites a hunger to pursue greater things (anything from playing an instrument to running faster). The confidence gained from success inspires me to try new things and look at things differently.

Resting inpires me. It is in those quiet, relaxed moments that I often have the greatest ideas. It is something about just being still that invokes inspiration.
